What the visit includes

The Vatican Museums bring together archaeological collections, sculpture, paintings and decorated galleries. The Sistine Chapel belongs to the museum visit; it is not approached through the ordinary Basilica entrance. Pick your priorities before you arrive. Trying to inspect every gallery leaves little energy for the final part of the route.

Tickets and the correct entrance

Start at the official ticket office to check your dates. Use the northern museum entrance on Viale Vaticano, following the address on your confirmation. St. Peter’s Square is a different arrival point. For a tour, the meeting point may be an agency office or a street nearby, so do not assume that you meet at the ticket scanners.

A practical route

A first visit works best with a small set of priorities, such as classical sculpture, the decorated galleries and the Raphael Rooms, followed by the Chapel. Actual routes and room availability can change. Use the official museum map and ask staff before taking a detour. Leave time for crowded corridors and for finding your way out.

What to bring

Carry a small bag, your booking confirmation and any identification required by the ticket terms. Read the dress rules in advance. Museum photography rules differ from those in the Chapel; follow posted instructions. If you check a bag, remember that collecting it can affect your next stop at the Basilica.
